How to check water bills through self meter reading service
The company said customers will be required to dial USSD code *888#
Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) have elaborated on how Kenyans can check their water bills through the use of self (meter) reading service.
With the self-meter reading, customers avoid billing using estimates and can give their meter readings on the 15th day of every month.

Billing based on estimate can be as a result of denied access to read the meter, a malfunctioning meter or wrong readings hence prompting the system to bill on estimate.
In a notice on Friday, the company said customers will be required to dial USSD code *888# and choose option 4 on the menu to get the service.
“This service shall complement our monthly meter reading activities and as such, customers are reminded to always grant access to our staff when they come to read the meters,” NCWSC said.
Customers in need of water bill statements have been urged to access the statements via the online portal: https://portal.nairobiwater.co.ke.
“Click register: Fill in your details. (if not registered), verify email and proceed to login, proceed to the self-care tab and click on “Get Statement” NCWSC said.
The water company noted that the services available on the USSD code are: registration of e-bills, querying and payments of bills, Tambua service, water and service connections, editing of accounts and Nairobi water contacts.
Last year, they noted that the service features were part of the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ reforms meant to simplify and improve the process of applying and paying for water and sewer connections.
“The government of Kenya is fast-tracking the reforms to simplify the process of setting up businesses in Kenya; automation of Water and Sewer connections is one of them,” they said.
